Why I Maintain this Site
First, the background
I was given a wonderful opportunity when I began a career at Cato back in October of 2000. Fresh out of college, I applied to be an administrative assistant. Not six months after I started, I was hired in the web department to help maintain Cato's monstrous website(s). My boss, Virginia, quickly saw my potential and began sending me to classes to learn more about "web stuff". It didn't take long for me to pick up on the new stuff I was learning and before I knew it I was a programming fool. A little more than four years to the day I began working at Cato, I set off to begin a new chapter in my life in Okinawa, Japan with my husband. Not wanting to set my skills on a shelf, I set up this web site.
Second, the purpose
Not only is this site a way for me to continue utilizing my skills, it is also a way for me to communicate and stay in touch with friends and family back home. It is an unbelievable experience living in Okinawa, and I am so glad we live in a day and age that we can share photos and letters via email through the wonders of technology. Another facet to this site is the ability to teach/learn about Japan from everything including the culture to the language!
Third, the name
I have my former colleague to thank for the idea of the domain name. He knows how much a fan I am when it comes to the Muppets. On my last day of work, a stuffed Kermit he had in his office for the three and a half years we worked together was presented to me as a going-away gift. I vowed this gift would accompany us on our journey around the world and now it has a place to show off its travels.'p>
I hope you enjoy visiting the site as much as I enjoy creating and maintaining it. I always welcome comments and suggestions and look forward to hearing from everyone that happens to come across the site.
Thank you!
